LOLA TARTE

Lola Tarte is an Irish multidisciplinary artist based in London. Working mainly with found objects and tokens of lived experience, she drives these items beyond their initial purpose to narrate and contemplate what it means to be a woman, a worker, an artist. Characterised by single, unbroken lines, her works engage with the full spectrum of intimacy, whether genuine, contrived, or somewhere between.

Shadow Work, 2026, Metal, wire, human hair, card

Spintriae, 2025, Polished Steel

Whores have been the subject matter of the nude throughout art history, usually going unnamed. Within her sessions, where time is paid for, the artist flips this narrative so that the ‘John’ becomes the subject - objectified and unaccredited. Documenting this period of her life through a medium that feels less tangible than photography, moments from these sessions are recreated in soft wire: malleable, able to be reshaped, reused, and reimagined. This materiality reflects how memory fills in the gaps as experiences begin to blur into one another. The steel tokens act as spintriae, or Roman brothel tokens, reflecting the artist’s difficult relationship with making art about sex work and the influence capitalism has over us, including our passions.
