JUNO NOX

Nuri, also known as Mistress Juno Nox Morningstar, is an anarchist, independent, and altruistic multidisciplinary artist from Mexico, as well as an activist and pro-domme currently travelling in Europe. They mostly live within the clandestinity imposed by the complexities of the European system, finding new ways to navigate systematic oppression as a non-EU POC sex worker and artist.

Necromasochist, 2022-2026, Ballpoint pen, charcoal and ink on paper

Drawing on traditions of remembrance in Mexico, this work reflects on honouring the dead and confronting mortality. The artist describes a dominatrix fantasy of being paid each year to piss on a submissive’s grave on their birthday — a provocation that sits alongside reflections on life’s fragility and the ways capitalism profits from death.
Walking through cemeteries, the work considers abandonment, ego, and the fear of being forgotten, noting how many graves fall into neglect once those who remember are gone. In parallel, it reflects on how sex workers are criticised for capitalising on eroticism and sexuality, despite not having invented capitalism any more than funeral directors have. The work insists that monetary exchange does not preclude connection, sensibility, or care.
